Adult Term 2 Class, Abstracts to Portraits

Course Outline: Learn to paint canvases at Ebb & Flow Studio, Boutique Classes. Beginners and intermediates welcome. 

Each term Kerry-Anne chooses a topic to help students build skills and techniques for canvas painting. As a student you can choose the reference image you wish to paint with-in the scope of the topic, this is called a project approach. In the past we have covered topics like: underwater, reflections on water, landscapes, birds and botanicals, culture, portraits, pets... etc. Students have great results and learn many skills in a hands-on progressive way. 

This term's topic is Abstracts to Portraits. We will learn some basic portrait tips and trial with small samples. 

Next phase will be learning to paint an abstract.

You may choose to do an abstract background then add your portrait.

Or just stick with the enjoyable process of abstract painting if you rather not progress to a portrait.

So basically you will choose your own adventure within the scope of the topic. 

Materials: Students must bring the following equipment to be eligible to participate. 

All materials are discussed in week one to avoid buying mistakes.

Paints: Matisse Flow acrylics

Brushes: good variety of acrylic brushes

Tote: tool box tote or basket (no soft bags for equipment allowed)

Print: of your reference image with technical suitability to be discussed with teacher

Clean up: paper-towel and nappy wipes

Test piece: Canvas Board A5/A4 or A4 canvas pad

Project: Canvas size can be large or a diptych for those that choose to stick with abstract

Project: Canvas size can be approximately 40 x 60cm rectangle or square

Oil painting is an optional choice for those that know the medium process, plese check with Kerry-Anne

The studio is a positive and safe space for all, we believe positivity breeds positivity and good results.

Some personality types do not cope with learning art. This may sound strange to point out but perfectionism or high anxiety personality types usually become overwhelmed. Those with naturally optimistic or resilient dispositions are best suited to learning art. If you have a stress related condition please choose art therapy instead because life and art should be enjoyed!
