Lovey Dovey – Abstract by Kerry-Anne Knibbs – Hello, and thank you for taking a closer look!

“I have a deep appreciation for symbols and abstract forms, seeing them as catalysts that embody energy in its purest form. In Feng Shui we find that artworks are one of the eight key elements used to attract positive energy and set intentions.”

No Apologies is a painting from a series exploring the shadowy, hidden world of birds — the undergrowth, the dark corners where life thrives away from the light. There’s a sense of mystery in these spaces, as life doesn’t only exist in the brightness of the day. The interplay of Yin and Yang forms the essence of our reality: day and night, activity and rest, summer and winter, ebb and flow. This piece features the mighty Currawong, a bird often associated with magic, divination, and prophecy, drawing connections to the crow and the magpie. Despite its dark plumage, the Currawong, like many blackbirds, is frequently misunderstood.

These birds aren’t the colorful, melodious creatures often celebrated in culture. Instead, they are precisely how nature designed them to be: powerful, enigmatic, and rich in their own way. In Feng Shui, black and blue-black represent the Yin side of the Yin-Yang symbol, embodying feminine, dark, and calming energies. While black is generally avoided in spaces like bedrooms and kitchens, it holds great significance in areas such as the foyer or living spaces, which are tied to career and life path. The colour is associated with the water element, which symbolises prosperity and abundance. If you’re looking to attract success and wealth into your life, black and blue are key components to consider in your home — but be mindful, as black should not dominate a space, ideally covering no more than 20% of your decor.

Those drawn to the blackbirds of the world, particularly the Currawong, need not apologise for their affinity. Just as these birds are unapologetically themselves, so too should we embrace the mystery and power they represent.
